Sunny, warm temperatures ahead today

Sunny and warm is today’s forecast from the National Weather Service.

Today’s high will be near 90 degrees, with tonight’s low at 72, according to the weather service. Wednesday and Thursday’s forecast are about the same, with the addition of some clouds.

Temperatures are expected to run 5 to 10 degrees above normal through the rest of the week, the weather service said.

The next chance for storms is not expected until Monday, but no hazardous weather is expected at this time, according to the weather service.

Looking ahead to the Labor Day weekend, Saturday’s forecast is sunny and warm, and Sunday night and Monday’s forecast have a chance of thunderstorms and rain, the weather service said.

Police investigate fatal accident near 3rd and Oakland

Kansas City, Kan., police are investigating a fatal accident near 3rd and Oakland.

At 1:16 a.m. Sept. 1, police responded to the location on reports of a fatal accident, according to a spokesman.

When officers arrived, they found a deceased man of unknown age who had been struck by a vehicle, the spokesman said.

A preliminary investigation indicated that a vehicle had been traveling southbound on 3rd Street when it struck the victim, according to the spokesman. The vehicle was gone before police arrived.

The identity of the victim is being withheld until there is positive identification and family notification, police said.

The accident is under investigation by the Kansas City, Kan., Police Department’s Traffic Support Unit- Critical Collision Response Team.

Missing person located

A woman reported missing about 5 p.m. Aug. 31 has been located safely, according to Kansas City, Kan., police.

A spokesman said the woman, age 79, was reported missing from Kansas City, Kan. She had last been seen on South 74th Street.

Officers were canvassing the area when the woman called a neighbor and advised that she was near 75th and Switzer in Overland Park, Kan. Overland Park officers responded to contact her and check on her well-being, police said.
