Police investigating body found in river

Kansas City, Kan., police are investigating a body found in the river near 58th and Kansas Avenue, according to authorities.

A spokesman for the Kansas City, Kan., Police Department said officers responded to a call about a deceased person at 5:05 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19.

When they arrived, officers found a decomposed body in the Kansas River, deceased by unknown means, the spokesman said. The cause of death and identity of the victim are to be determined, the spokesman added.

The incident is under investigation by the Kansas City, Kan., Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division, which is encouraging anyone with information to call the TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS.

Free haircuts for blood donors offered in September

Blood donors to the American Red Cross during September will receive a free haircut coupon, according to a Red Cross spokesman.

The Red Cross and Sports Clips Haircuts are working to encourage donations during September. Those who give blood between Sept. 1 and Sept. 30 will receive a coupon for a free haircut valid through Nov. 8, and the coupon will arrive through their email, according to the Red Cross.

According to a Red Cross spokesman, donors of all blood types are needed, especially types O negative, A negative and B negative.

One of the area blood drives is 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 19 at Sporting Park, Victory Project, in the Village West area of Kansas City, Kan.
