Back-to-School Fair to be Aug. 1
The 14th annual Wyandotte County Back to School Fair will be held on Saturday, Aug. 1, at two locations, Kansas City Kansas Community College and KCK Boys and Girls Club. Sports physicals, immunizations and school supplies will be some of the many offerings at the annual Wyandotte County Back to School Fair. This year’s fair will be held Saturday, Aug. 1, at two locations: Kansas City Kansas Community College, 7250 State Ave., 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., The Boys and Girls Club Wyandotte County Unit, 1240 Troup, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The fair is open to all families with students who live in Wyandotte County (both public and private school students). Parents must provide proof of residence to participate in the fair. The purpose of the event is to provide a one-stop opportunity for families to prepare for the start of school. Immunizations and sports physicals will be available to the first 400 children (parents must bring a current immunization card or a pre-participation examination form for the physical). Other offerings will include eye screenings (for the first 50 children), books, lunch, book bags with supplies and more. The fair is sponsored by the Kansas City, Kan., Public Schools, Kansas City Kansas Community College and the Board of Public Utilities.
Summer Reading Wrap-Up Party planned at Main Library
A Summer Reading Wrap-up Party is planned from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, at the Main Kansas City, Kan., Public Library, 625 Minnesota Ave., in the storytime-craft room area. There will be musical entertainment by Kim Shope with Kansas City Young Audiences. The party also includes ice cream and summer reading prizes.
Summer Reading Wrap-Up Party planned at West Wyandotte Library
Another Summer Reading Wrap-Up Party is planned from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, at the West Wyandotte Library, 1737 N. 82nd, Kansas City, Kan. Jim “Mr. Stinky Feet” Cosgrove will entertain with his songs. Children are invited to attend and may sing, dance and play with the band. Children under 9 must be accompanied by an adult. Strawberry Hill Museum open on weekends
The Strawberry Hill Museum, 720 N. 4th St., Kansas City, Kan., is open on the weekends. The museum is open from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. The admission charge is $7 for adults, $3 for children 6 to 12, and free for children under 6. Special tours are available during the week for groups of 20 or more by calling 913-721-0081. Wyandotte County Museum open

Houston visits Sporting KC on Saturday
Sporting KC will put the team’s home unbeaten record (10-0-3 in all competitions in 2015) on the line when they play host to rivals Houston Dynamo at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday at Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kan. The Western Conference clash will air live on KMCI-TV 38 the Spot locally and across the Midwest on SKCTV affiliates with three hours of coverage beginning at 7 p.m.
