Motorcyclist rolls bike on Highway 73 at State Avenue

A motorcyclist rolled his bike on U.S. 73 highway at State Avenue in Kansas City, Kan., at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, June 28, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper’s report.

A 52-year-old Easton, Kan., man was riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle on the ramp from southbound U.S. 73 to westbound State Avenue when he lost control, the trooper’s report stated.

The motorcycle entered the grass gore and roll, the report stated.

The man was injured and taken to a hospital in Overland Park. He was wearing protective eyewear, but not a helmet, the report stated.

Dry today, then storms could return Tuesday night

Monday’s forecast is sunny, with a high near 87, according to the National Weather Service.

Look for storms coming back into the forecast Tuesday night, the weather service said.

Temperatures will creep into the lower 90s on Tuesday, but heat index values will stay below 100 degrees, according to the weather service.

Expect a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms on Tuesday night, with a low around 71, the weather service said. The wind will change from west southwest to southeast after midnight, the weather service predicted.

Thunderstorms are possible Tuesday night into Wednesday, the weather service said. A few storms could be strong to severe with large hail and damaging winds. Heavy rain is also possible in several places, mainly across northern and central Missouri.

Occasional storm chances will persist into the holiday weekend. At this time it’s too early to determine if any of these storms may be strong or produce flooding, the weather service said.

BPU under 1,000 customers without power

The Board of Public Utilities outage map is reporting about 449 customers in Kansas City, Kan., are still without power as of 8:28 a.m. Monday, following Friday morning’s storm.

According to the BPU, there were about 25,000 customers without power just after the storm hit Friday morning.

The outage map shows the remaining areas where power is out are mostly in the center part of the city.

As of 9 a.m., the BPU outage map now reads 669 customers without power. The BPU outage map showed a new group of 182 customers without power near K-32.
