A 24-year-old Kansas City, Kan., woman was westbound on I-70 near Park Drive in a Volkswagen about 2 p.m. Sunday, June 7, when she saw a mattress in the road.
The woman swerved to avoid the mattress, and then hit the guardrail and went into a bridge barrier, according to a Kansas Turnpike Authority trooper’s report.
She was injured and taken to a hospital, according to the trooper’s report. The report stated she was not wearing a seat belt.
Wyandotte County was placed under a severe thunderstorm watch on Sunday evening, lasting until 3 a.m. Monday, June 8, according to the National Weather Service.
Some heavy cloud cover was seen in Wyandotte County around 8:30 p.m. Sunday. Surrounding counties also are under the thunderstorm watch.
Wyandotte County also is under a flash flood watch until 7 a.m. Monday, June 8, according to the weather service.
In the event of flooding, stay out of roadways that are covered with water, according to the weather service, and find an alternate route.
