Flood advisory issued for Wyandotte County

The National Weather Service has issued an urban and small stream flood advisory for eastern Wyandotte County until 7:30 p.m. Monday, June 15.

Heavy rain fell across the metropolitan area this afternoon and evening. Around 1.5 inches of rain fell in the last hour in many locations, the weather service said.

Runoff from this rainfall will cause minor flooding to occur, especially along small streams and near low water crossings, the weather service said.

Kansas City, Kan., and surrounding areas may experience minor flooding, the weather service said.

The Kansas and Missouri rivers in Wyandotte County are below flood stage now, according to hydrology charts.

Police request assistance in investigating shooting

Police are asking the public’s help to investigate a shooting at I-35 and Southwest Boulevard, a spokesman said.

Police are seeking help in locating a 2009 or 2010 Dodge Charger, silver in color, similar to one in a photo.

About 2:35 p.m. June 13, police responded to the shooting near I-35 and Southwest Boulevard. They found a vehicle in the intersection with a man inside who had been shot, a spokesman said. The man was in his 30s and sustained life-threatening injuries. He was taken to a hospital.

This incident remains under investigation by the Kansas City, Kan., Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division, which is encouraging anyone with information to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
