U.S. attorney to speak at prayer service for Charleston victims Saturday in KCK

U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom will speak during a prayer service Saturday in Kansas City, Kan., for the victims of the shooting in Charleston, S.C.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of the victims in Charleston,” Grissom said. “The Department of Justice has opened a hate crime investigation. We will use every tool to investigate this tragic event.”

The service will be from 9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 417 Richmond Ave., in Kansas City, Kan. The Rev. C.L. Bachus will preside.

Food Truck Friday event today in downtown KCK

The Downtown Shareholders are inviting the public to attend Food Truck Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. today in the parking lot across from the Hilton Garden Inn at 520 Minnesota Ave.

Indios Carbonsitos will provide Mexican food including short rib sopes, cherry grilled chicken nachos, and churros with cajeta.

During Food Truck Friday, selected vendors sell food to people who attend.

Woman injured after car spins out, goes into ditch on I-70

A single-car accident was reported at 2:20 a.m. Friday, June 19, on I-70 eastbound in Kansas City, Kan.

According to a Kansas Turnpike Authority trooper’s report, an eastbound Ford Fusion drifted left into the wall, lost control, spun out, crossed back across the roadway and went into a ditch.

The accident happened between the I-635 and Park Drive exits to I-70, according to the report.

The driver, a 26-year-old woman from Overland Park, Kan., was injured and taken to a hospital, the trooper’s report stated.
