Alcott’s ‘Robin Hood’ proves popular

“The Robin Hood Files,” playing at the Alcott Arts Center in Kansas City, Kan., was a sellout opening night last weekend, and returns for two shows this weekend.

A benefit for Alcott Arts Center, the show features a cast of kids who perform the familiar Robin Hood story with some twists, according to Chris Green, Alcott’s executive director.

She said the “who done it” comedy features kids from throughout the region. The director is Katie Lee of Excelsior Springs, Mo.

“The kids have done a great job, I’m really impressed with it,” Green said.

The hour-and-10 minutes show is suitable for children, with anybody 5 and older being able to understand it, she said. A lot of parents and grandparents were in the audience the first weekend, she added.

Admission to the show is $6 for those 12 years old and younger and senior citizens, and $8 for all others.

Also on exhibit this weekend at Alcott Arts is a variety of artwork from some of the cast members in the play, she said. The art exhibits include the creations of students taking Alcott’s summer arts and crafts classes. A silent auction is available with gift baskets that would be suitable for Father’s Day gifts.

In the planning stages for future events at the Alcott are a poker tournament, as well as the second Saturday art exhibits, Green said.

“The Robin Hood Files” will be performed at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 20, and 3 p.m. Sunday, June 21, at the Alcott Arts Center, 180 S. 18th St., Kansas City, Kan. Since tickets are only sold at the door, it will be first-come, first-served with limited seating available.

The Alcott is not yet ADA-accessible. For more information see alcottartscenter.org or call 913-233-2787.
