Dean’s honor list announced at Saint Mary

Several Wyandotte County students are on the dean’s honor list for the fall semester at Saint Mary University, Leavenworth.

The students had a semester grade point average of 3.5 or better.

Event planned for School Choice Week

School Choice Week includes an event this week at Open Door Christian School, 3033 N. 103rd Terrace, Kansas City, Kan.

The school will have an open house from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Jan. 28 and 29 in conjunction with School Choice Week.

The open house includes a school tour and classroom visit.

The goal of the event is to inform parents about education options available for their children, providing families with a variety of options for education.

“Kansas parents have more education options for their children than ever before. The state has experienced a notable growth in the number of public school and private school options for families,” said Andrew R. Campanella, president, National School Choice Week.

Registration open for KCKCC continuing education classes

Kansas City Kansas Community College Continuing Education is offering several classes this semester, which all start in early February.

The first set of classes is an opportunity to learn about past leaders of Kansas and what they meant to history.

Students will get the opportunity to learn from a first-person reenactor and see history come to life. All of these courses will be at 6 p.m. Thursdays in February in Room 3623 on the KCKCC main campus, 7250 State Ave. Cost for one class is $20 or all four for $70.

• Feb. 5 – Dr. James Naismith
• Feb. 12 – Octave Chanute
• Feb. 19 – Wilbur Wright
• Feb. 26 – Dwight Eisenhower

In addition, KCKCC Continuing Education will be offering dance classes starting next week. All classes are Tuesday nights beginning Feb. 3 in Room 10 at KCKCC’s West State location. Prime Time members get a $5 discount. Class options include:

• Chair Yoga. A unique yoga style that adapts yoga positions and poses through the use of a yoga chair. 5 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays, Feb. 3 top March 10. Cost: $45.
• Line Dancing. Learn a variety of line dances to increase the heart rate and fitness level. 6 to 6:45 p.m. Tuesdays, Feb. 3 to March 10. Cost: $45.
• Ballroom Dancing. Learn the basics of various ballroom dances including the waltz, tango, foxtrot, rumba and swing. Couples only please. 7 to 7:45 p.m. Tuesdays, Feb. 3 to March 10. Cost: $60.
