Yoder announces U.S. service academy nominations

U.S. Rep. Kevin Yoder, R-3rd Dist., today announced that 22 students in the 3rd District, which includes Johnson and Wyandotte counties, were nominated for a military academy appointment for fall 2015.

There were no Wyandotte County students on the list. All of the 22 nominees were from Johnson County.

Rep. Yoder will begin accepting applications, for the U.S. Service Academy class entering 2016, May 1, 2015. The application deadline is Oct. 1, 2015. Man injured in rollover accident on I-435; other vehicle flees

A man is in the hospital after a rollover accident that happened when another vehicle cut him off on I-435 in Wyandotte County.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol trooper’s report, a Chevy Trailblazer was northbound on I-435 in the far right lane just south of the Holliday Drive exit at 5:20 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20.

Witnesses at the scene said a noncontact vehicle was driving aggressively and swerved toward the Trailblazer as if to cut it off, the trooper’s report stated.

The driver of the Trailblazer, a 40-year-old man from Kansas City, Kan., swerved to the right and went off the roadway, according to the trooper’s report. The Trailblazer overturned multiple times before coming to rest upright, the report stated.

The noncontact vehicle then fled the scene, the trooper’s report stated. There was no information available about the make or model of the noncontact vehicle.

The driver of the Trailblazer was injured and taken to a hospital.

Rain in today’s and weekend forecast

A 40 percent chance of rain is in the Friday forecast, according to the National Weather Service.

There’s a chance of drizzle between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., then a chance of rain after 2 p.m.

Today’s high will be near 45. There is a southeast wind of 8 to 13 mph.

The temperature at 8 a.m. was 27 degrees, with a wind chill of 19. At 9 a.m. the temperature was 32 degrees and the wind chill was 24.

Tonight, there also is a 40 percent chance of rain. The low will be around 41. The southeast wind will be around 8 mph changing to south southwest after midnight.

For Saturday, another 40 percent chance of showers is in the forecast. The high will be near 58, with a south wind of 8 to 11 mph.

Saturday night, there will be a 70 percent chance of rain. The low will be around 49. South wind will be from 8 to 14 mph, with gusts of up to 18 mph.

Sunday, rain again is in the forecast with a 60 percent chance. The high will be near 54, with winds from 6 to 11 mph changing to northwest in the afternoon.

Sunday night, look for a 30 percent chance of rain and snow. The low will be around 33.

Monday, rain is not in the forecast, and the high will be near 42.
