Bonner Friends of Library Book Sale continues Aug. 16
Book lovers will want to mark Aug. 16 as the date the Bonner Friends of the Library Book Sale continues. Hours are 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Saturday. The library is at 201 N. Nettleton Ave., Bonner Springs. A large selection of fiction and nonfiction as well as children’s books will be sold for no more than $1 and many older but still in good shape choices for only 25 cents. There is an interesting selection of large print volumes and you may also find a book autographed by the author. Along with bargain prices there will be different specials throughout the days of the sale, such as a bag of romance fiction or a bag of paperbacks for $1. Fiction is arranged alphabetically by author and nonfiction in a variety of categories is identified by signage. Recent donations will be in a separate area and many are like new and would make good gifts. The sale will be held in the lower level storm shelter of the library and can be accessed from the parking lot in the rear of the building. Profits from the sale are used to enhance the library and its programs, most recently contributing to the successful summer reading program.

Democrats to meet Saturday
The Wyandotte County Third Saturday Democratic Breakfast will meet Saturday, Aug. 16, at the Eisenhower Room of the Hilton Garden Inn, 520 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, Kan. The breakfast buffet is available at 8:15 a.m. and the forum begins at 9:15 am. Guest speakers will be Dennis Anderson, Kansas insurance commissioner candidate; and Carmen Alldritt, Kansas treasurer candidate. A.J. Kotich, Kansas attorney general candidate, will attend. The cost of the breakfast buffet is $10, or $7 for students and those on limited incomes. All Democrats are invited to attend. Live at Legends free concert to be Aug. 16
The Legends Outlets, I-70 and I-435, will sponsor free family friendly concerts on some Saturday evenings during July and August in front of the center courtyard fountain. Red Guitar will perform from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, in the last concert of this series. The Live at the Legends summer concert series will feature local and regional talent performing popular pop, classic rock and country hits from the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, and today. The concert series will take place at the center of the Civic Courtyard Fountain in front of Phoenix Theaters Legends 14.
Summer concert to be Aug. 16 at Legends
Dave and Buster’s Summer Concert Series will continue at 9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, on the rooftop patio at The Legends Outlets. Ragged Heirs will perform from 9 p.m. to close Aug. 16. Different bands will play on Saturdays through September.

Church plan revival
Bible Way Community Church, 1720 N. 46th St. in Kansas City, Kan., will hold its Back To School Revival. The revival will take place from 2 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, at Bible Way. The revival includes worship service, school supplies giveaway, food and drinks, as well as outside activities. Outside activities will include plenty of games for children of all ages, and a Basketball Tournament for youth 13 and older. Cost to participate in the Basketball Tournament is $2 per person. Games will be 3 on 3, all games are 10 minutes each, and prizes will be awarded. St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 708 N. 4th St., Kansas City, Kan., plans a festival after the 4 p.m. Mass on Saturday, Aug. 16. A free outdoor polka dance is planned from 9 to 11 p.m. on the museum grounds next door. Food, drink, and a traditional sarma dinner will be available. The social will include games, and prizes will include salamis, homemade poviticas and strudels.

Persons of all Christian traditions are invited to participate in Taizé prayer on Thursday, Sept. 4 ,at 7 p.m. in Annunciation Chapel on the campus of the Mother House of the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth, 4200 S. 4th St., Leavenworth, Kan. Taizé prayer is a meditative, candlelit service that includes simple chants sung repeatedly, silence, and prayers of praise and intercession. Stony Point Christian Church, 149 S. 78th, has scheduled a StoreHouse at 6 p.m. Aug. 20. Almost 100 persons attended the StoreHouse on Aug. 6. Eighty ate dinner, 86 received clothes, and the food pantry fed 167 households. Sunday School promotion day will be Aug. 24 at Stony Point.

Trinity AME Church will celebrate its 109th anniversary with several events. The anniversary celebration will be led by the Rev. Cecil (Chip) Murray, retired, who was previously a pastor at Trinity AME and later at the First AME Church in Los Angeles. Murray will lead a workshop on “Lead, Follow or Get Out of the Way” from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 23, at the Reardon Convention Center, 500 Minnesota Ave. The workshop has a $15 fee and includes a continental breakfast.
