Zaxby’s, a new restaurant near 109th and Parallel Parkway, in Kansas City, Kan., opened this morning.
Mike Schneidereit, franchise owner, said 10 people were waiting in line when the restaurant opened this morning. One man arrived at 4:30 a.m. By noon today, the restaurant was crowded. The restaurant’s regular hours are 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Today is a soft opening for the restaurant, he added.
“It’s very exciting,” he said. “The staff is doing fantastic.”
The fast casual restaurant has hired 48 persons from the area, he said. Zaxby’s has seating for about 100 persons and also has a drive-through.
Chicken fingers, buffalo wings and salads are the three most popular items on the menu, Schneidereit said. Dipping sauces ranging from mild to hot are offered with the chicken.
The Zaxby’s chain originated in Georgia, and the franchises are independently owned. A franchise owner from out of state came in to help with today’s opening.
The restaurant had a friends and family event over the weekend before its opening today, Schneidereit said.
The restaurant, 2035 N. 109 St., is on the west side of Plaza at the Speedway, near the Walmart store. It is in the Piper school district.
