The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Wyandotte County from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. Monday, Feb. 11.
A wintry mix of precipitation may develop over the area late Sunday night and may include light freezing drizzle, sleet and snow, the weather service said. It will change into rain Monday morning.
Less than an inch of sleet and snow, and a light glaze of ice is expected late Sunday night and early Monday morning, according to the weather service.
Freezing drizzle and sleet are possible before 3 a.m., then sleet between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m., followed by drizzle after 5 a.m., the weather service said.
Residents should expect slippery roads, with hazardous conditions affecting the morning commute, according to the weather service.
Motorists should expect slippery roads and limited visibility, and use caution while driving, the weather service said.
Wyandotte County also is under a dense fog advisory until 9 a.m. Monday, according to the weather service. Visibility of one-quarter mile or less is expected.
Poor visibility and condensation from the fog, contributing to wet and slick roads, could result in hazardous driving conditions, the weather service said.
Dense freezing fog is expected before 1 a.m., with dense fog after 1 a.m., according to the weather service. Sunday night’s low will be around 32.
Monday’s forecast is an 80 percent chance of rain with patchy dense fog, and a high near 36, the weather service said. An east wind will be 6 to 9 mph. Between a tenth and quarter-inch of precipitation is expected.
Monday night, rain or freezing drizzle is likely before 2 a.m., then a chance of snow and freezing drizzle between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m., followed by a chance of snow after 3 a.m., according to the weather service. There could be patchy fog before 7 p.m. The low will be around 29 with an east northeast wind 5 to 10 mph becoming northwest 11 to 16 mph after midnight. Winds may gust up to 21 mph.
