Wyandotte County is under a severe thunderstorm watch from now until 2 a.m. June 18, according to the National Weather Service.
Nearby counties in a wide area, including Johnson and Leavenworth counties, also are under a severe thunderstorm watch.
Radar maps showed a storm in the Topeka area moving east around 7 p.m. Saturday.
With these storms, there is a possibility of strong straight-line winds and hail. There is a low risk of tornadoes.
At 7 p.m., the temperature was 90 degrees with a heat index of 101.
