Wyandotte County is under a flash flood warning until 9:45 a.m. Monday, according to the National Weather Service.
At 5:30 a.m., thunderstorms were producing heavy rain over the warning area. Up to two inches of rain fell then with some places in the Kansas City area reporting more than 3 inches. Flash flooding is imminent or ongoing in areas.
In Kansas City, Mo., Emmanuel Cleaver and Elmwood, the road has been closed and a water rescue was underway earlier this morning.
Area residents in the path of flooding were advised to move to higher ground now, and act quickly to protect their lives.
Those on the road were advised not to try to drive through water. They should turn around when encountering flooded roads and find another route.
Flooding should be reported to the local law enforcement agencies, when it can be reported safely.
Severe thunderstorms are possible later this morning and this afternoon. The main hazards will be from damaging winds, frequent lightning and flooding rains.
There is also a flash flood watch continuing in Wyandotte County after the flash flood warning expires. The flash flood watch is in effect through 1 p.m. July 20.
