Kansas City NWSL opens its season tonight with a match at 7 p.m. May 26 at Legends Field in Kansas City, Kansas.
In the match against the Chicago Red Stars, Kansas City will be looking for its first win as a franchise.
After a 2-2 draw with the Houston Dash on Sunday in Houston, Kansas City is now 0-0-2.
Several area landmarks, such as Union Station and the fountain in Mill Creek Park, will be featuring a teal color today in support of Kansas City NWSL.
Before the game, Kathleen and the One Nite Stand Band will perform outside Legends Field. The first 3,000 fans through the gates will receive a 2021 schedule magnet. The national anthem will be performed by Maelyn Jarmon, winner of The Voice in Season 16, and there will be a halftime performance by the Marching Cobras.
The team recently unveiled a new uniform featuring a red jersey and shorts with the team’s crest, as well as teal socks.
The expected starting lineup tonight for KC NWSl is Amy Rodriguez, forward; Mariana Larroquette, forward; Darian Jenkins, forward; Gaby Vincent, midfielder; Victoria Pickett, midfielder; Desiree Scott, midfielder; Michelle Maemone, defender; Katie Bowen, defender; Rachel Corsie, defender; Taylor Leach, defender; and Nicole Barnhart, goalkeeper.
In past matches, Rodriguez has scored 10 goals in 19 matches against the Red Stars across all competitions.
Leach scored the final goal for Kansas City in Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Houston. In two games this season, Leach has 13 clearances, three blocks and one interception.
