A doubleheader tournament for soccer fans will take place July 26 at Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kansas.
The Tournament of Nations will begin at 3:15 p.m. with a match between Brazil and Australia, followed by a match at 6 p.m. between the United States Women’s National Team and Japan.
Previously, the U.S. and Japan women’s teams met in the 2011 and 2015 FIFA World Cup finals, as well as a gold medal match at the 2012 Olympics. Japan edged the U.S. in a penalty shootout to win its first World Cup title seven years ago, but the U.S. won the Olympic gold medal the next year, then took the 2015 World Cup title.
The U.S. Women’s National Team is a three-time World Cup champion. The U.S. Women’s National Team last played at Children’s Mercy Park on July 22, 2016, when it won 4-0 over Costa Rica.
The U.S. WNT next will play the second part of the tournament against Australia at 6 p.m. July 29 in East Hartford, Connecticut. Then the U.S. WNT will play Brazil at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 2 in Bridgeview, Illinois.
Haley Hanson, an Overland Park, Kansas, midfielder, made her senior international debut on April 8 of this year.
