Snow is in the forecast for late Thursday night before changing to sleet or freezing rain, and then to rain as warmer air moves in, according to the National Weather Service.
A winter weather advisory will be in effect from midnight tonight through 6 p.m. Friday.
The Friday morning commute will be affected, with hazardous conditions likely, the weather service said.
Rain is in the forecast after 1 p.m. Friday, according to the weather service. Minor flooding is possible in some parts of the region late Friday into Saturday.
Colder temperatures moving in on Saturday night may freeze any water that remains on sidewalks and streets, the weather service said.
Motorists are advised to slow down and use caution during the next few days.
Today, it will be mostly sunny, with a high near 30, and a north northeast wind of 6 to 8 mph, the weather service said.
Tonight, there is a 90 percent chance of snow, mainly after 3 a.m., with a low of 25, according to the weather service. An east wind will be 6 to 10 mph. Less than a half-inch of snow is in the forecast.
Friday, there is a 100 percent chance of snow, freezing rain and sleet before noon, then rain, possibly mixed with freezing rain between noon and 1 p.m., then rain after 1 p.m., the weather service said. The sleet may be heavy at times. The high will be near 38 with a south southeast wind of 10 to 15 mph, gusting as high as 28 mph. New ice accumulation of less than one-tenth of an inch is possible. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than an inch is possible.
Friday night, there is a 70 percent chance of rain before 5 a.m., then a slight chance of rain and snow, according to the weather service. The low will be around 27 with a south southeast wind of 9 to 18 mph becoming west northwest after midnight. Winds may gust as high as 29 mph. Little or no snow accumulation is expected.
Saturday, it will be sunny, with a high near 35 and a northwest wind of 14 to 21 mph, gusting as high as 34 mph, the weather service said.
Saturday night, it will be mostly clear, with a low of 15, according to the weather service.
Sunday, it will be mostly sunny, with a high near 26, the weather service said.
Sunday night, it will be partly cloudy, with a low of 10, according to the weather service.
Monday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, it will be sunny, with a high near 27, the weather service said.
Monday night, it will be mostly clear, with a low of 14, according to the weather service.
Tuesday, it will be sunny, with a high near 36, the weather service said.
Tuesday night, it will be partly cloudy, with a low of 24, according to the weather service.
