Winter weather advisory issued for Wyandotte County from Sunday through Monday

A winter weather advisory has been issued from 9 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, through 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16, according to the National Weather Service.

According to the weather service, mixed precipitation is possible Sunday and Monday. Total snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches and ice accumulation of around one-tenth of an inch are possible.

There likely will be slippery road conditions, which could affect morning or evening commutes on Monday, the weather service said.

Motorists were advised to slow down and use caution while traveling.

The forecast for Sunday is a 90 percent chance of snow, with a high near 30 and an east northeast wind of 6 to 8 mph, the weather service said. Snow accumulation will be 2 to 4 inches possible.

Sunday night, snow is likely before 9 p.m., then a 60 percent chance of snow and freezing drizzle between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m., then snow likely after 10 p.m., according to the weather service. The low will be around 21 with a north northeast wind of 6 to 8 mph. Less than an inch of new snow accumulation is possible.

Monday, there is a 70 percent chance of snow, mainly before noon, with a high near 29, the weather service said. A north wind will be around 6 mph. About 1 to 2 inches of new snow accumulation is possible.

Monday night, there is a 20 percent chance of snow before midnight, with a low of 15, according to the weather service. The low will be around 15 with a north wind of 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.

Tuesday, it will be sunny with a high near 34, the weather service said.
