While it was very cold this morning, the weather will warm up a little this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
Temperatures may rise to a high near 43 this afternoon, the weather service said. At 9 a.m. the temperature was 29 degrees and the wind chill reading was 19 in Wyandotte County.
Temperatures will continue to warm through the end of the week, and could move into the 50s on Friday and on the weekend, although they may dip a few degrees on Thursday, according to the forecast. Nighttime lows will continue to be below freezing through Sunday.
Today the wind could gust as high as 30 mph along a low-level axis reaching from the Texas Panhandle into the Great Lakes area. Although afternoon temperatures will rise above freezing today, a cold front will move through the area later tonight, according to the weather service. There is currently no precipitation predicted for the Kansas City area with this cold front.
Today, the high will be near 43 with skies that are increasingly cloudy, the weather service said. A south southwest wind of 6 to 16 mph will gust as high as 30 mph.
Tonight, it will be mostly cloudy, with a low of 25 and a west southwest wind of 5 to 8 mph becoming north northwest after midnight, according to the weather service.
Thursday, it will be partly sunny, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 41, the weather service said. A north northwest wind of 5 to 10 mph will become light in the afternoon.
Thursday night, it will be mostly clear, with a low of 23 and a calm wind, according to the weather service.
Friday, it will be sunny with a high near 52 and a calm wind, the weather service said.
