Website will have application for open burning in KCK

Residential open burning will be allowed Oct. 16 to Nov. 15 with a permit in Kansas City, Kansas.

According to a Unified Government spokesman, applications are available on the Kansas City, Kansas, Fire Department’s website at kckfd.org. Residents may apply for a three-day permit for opening burning, beginning Thursday, Oct. 8.

The restrictions on open burning include:

• Permits are limited to residential properties

• 1 permit per address during the 30-day burn period

• Only organic yard waste produced on the permitted property may be burned

• Burn piles are limited to 100 square feet at the base

• Open burning hours are limited from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

• The burning of rubbish, trash, treated wood, or any other item that creates a hazard to public health is strictly prohibited

• Burn piles must be a minimum of 15-feet from any structure, street, sidewalk or property line

• Fires must be attended at all times until completely extinguished

• A water source must be available for immediate use during burning

In order to use the online application portal, the applicant must have a valid email address.

A copy of the permit must be kept with the applicant during the open burn in hardcopy or PDF form.

Residents who do not have a valid email address may apply in person at any Kansas City, Kansas, Fire Station.
