Webb with 3 TDs in Schlagle win
by Brian Turrel
Schlagle High School staked its claim as the new team to beat in the Kansas City – Atchison League, defeating three-time consecutive league champion Atchison 30 – 0 on Friday night at Schlagle Stadium.
Schlagle senior running back Ivan Webb entered the night leading the state in rushing yards and kept his momentum going with nearly 300 yards in the game. Webb scored three touchdowns and repeatedly pulled away from Atchison tacklers to post big gains out of the backfield.
Schlagle also scored on a long pass from Brayden Soza to Larmon Witt in the first quarter, and a field goal from kicker David Chacon in the fourth.
Early on, it looked like Atchison might take control, bottling up Webb on Schlagle’s opening drive and getting good field position on a Schlagle fumble. Atchison drove down inside the Schlagle 10-yard line before Schlagle’s defense toughened up and stopped the drive.
For the rest of the night, Schlagle used Webb’s consistent yardage to sustain drives, scoring in every quarter. The Schlagle defense also stepped up, creating three turnovers in the shutout.
Schlagle improved their record to 3 – 0, and they will face Washington High School at home next Friday.
