The National Weather Service issued a special weather advisory at 8:54 p.m. Sunday for Wyandotte County, as well as Leavenworth County and parts of Atchison, Lafayette, Platte, Jackson, Clay and Buchanan counties until 9:30 p.m.
Doppler radar was tracking a line of strong thunderstorms along a line extending from Rushville to near Oak Grove, and moving northwest at 5 mph, the weather service said.
Storms over the affected area could collapse and produce winds of up to 40 mph, the weather service said.
The weather service also has issued an urban and small stream flood advisory until 11:15 p.m. Sunday for Wyandotte County, as well as parts of Leavenworth County, Johnson County, Platte County, Jackson County and Clay County.
Up to one inch of rain has already fallen within a half hour in places, according to the weather service.
