Warm, dry weather ahead

Warm and dry weather is in the forecast for the weekend and into next week, according to the National Weather Service.

Highs will be in the 90s daily, beginning Saturday, through the middle of next week, the weather service said.

Heat index values could approach and possibly exceed 100 degrees Saturday through midweek, according to the weather service.

Temperatures and heat index values will be greatest through the middle of next week, the weather service said.

Potential Tropical Cyclone 2, expected to develop later today over the north Gulf of Mexico, could move inland with remnants of the storm toward this region by Tuesday, increasing chances for rain, according to the weather service. Forecast models often have difficulty predicting tropical systems after landfall, according to the weather service, so the forecast is uncertain about the potential for rain in five days.

The Missouri River at Parkville, which includes Wyandotte County in its forecast area, is below flood stage and currently in action stage. The Kansas River at 23rd Street, where the gauge is near Kansas Avenue and the state line, has dropped below flood stage and is below action stage today.

Today, it will be mostly sunny, with a high near 84 and a north wind of 6 to 10 mph, gusting as high as 20 mph, the weather service said.

Tonight, it will be mostly clear, with a low around 65 and a north wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening, according to the weather service.

Friday, it will be sunny, with a high near 89, the weather service said, and a light and variable wind.

Friday night, it will be mostly clear, with a low of 67 and a light southeast wind, according to the weather service.

Saturday, it will be sunny with a high near 92 and a calm wind, the weather service said.

Saturday night, it will be mostly clear, with a low of 70, according to the weather service.

Sunday, it will be sunny, with a high near 93, the weather service said.
