Victim’s name released in fatal semi accident Friday

The victim of a fatal accident on Friday morning on I-70 near 86th Street has been identified, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper’s report.

In the accident, an eastbound Unified Government animal control vehicle, a Ford pickup, collided with the right side of a semi about 7:38 a.m. Friday, March 18, on I-70, according to the trooper’s report.

The semi then collided into the inside barrier wall, and another semi, a Freightliner, collided into the first semi, the trooper’s report stated.

Highway Patrol authorities on Friday stated that a fiery blaze broke out during the collision, and I-70 was closed to traffic for hours.

The semi driver who died in the collision was identified as Sherri Wheeler, 60, of Parkville, Missouri, according to the trooper’s report.

The driver of the Ford pickup, a 35-year-old man from Bonner Springs, Kansas, was taken to a hospital with possible minor injuries, according to the trooper’s report.

The driver of the first semi, a 36-year-old Kansas City, Missouri, man, was taken to a hospital with a possible serious injury, the trooper’s report stated.

It was raining on Friday morning.
