Victim of Sortor Drive homicide identified

The victim of the 10th homicide of the year in Kansas City, Kansas, has been identified as Francisco Herrera-Flores, 38, a resident of Kansas City, Kansas, according to police.

Herrera-Flores was found in the 4100 block of Sortor Drive shortly after 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 11, according to a police spokesman. He was the victim of an apparent shooting.

Guadalupe Benitez-Pizarro, 36, a resident of Santa Fe, New Mexico, was arrested and charged with second-degree felony murder, according to a police spokesman. Benitez-Pizarro is being held in the Wyandotte County Jail on a $250,000 bond.

The Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department’s Major Case Unit is investigating. Anyone with information is asked to call the TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS, the spokesman stated.
