Wyandotte County is under a red flag warning today from noon until 7 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.
According to the weather service, critical fire weather conditions will occur today. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
Today there will be west southwest wind of 6 to 14 mph, gusting to 18 mph, along with humidity as low as 15 percent, warm temperatures and dry grass.
Open outdoor burning should be avoided today, according to the weather service. Avoid using any outdoor equipment that may spark today, also.
Today’s weather will be sunny with a high near 65, the weather service said.
Tonight, the low will be around 40 with clear skies and a southwest wind of 7 to 14 mph, gusting as high as 18 mph, according to the weather service.
Thursday, skies will be sunny with a high near 69, and a south southwest wind of 5 to 8 mph, the weather service said.
Thursday night, there is an 80 percent chance of precipitation, mainly after 2 a.m. The low will be around 45 with an east wind of 10 to 14 mph, gusting as high as 23 mph, according to the weather service. Between a tenth and quarter of an inch of rain is possible.
Friday, there is an 80 percent chance of showers before 8 a.m., then showers are likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m., followed by a chance of rain after 2 p.m., the weather service said. The high will be near 59, with an east wind of 11 to 14 mph, gusting as high as 25 mph. Between a tenth and quarter-inch of rain is possible.
Friday night, there is a 40 percent chance of showers, mainly after 2 a.m., according to the weather service. The low will be around 37. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch are expected.
Saturday, the chance of showers before 8 a.m. is 30 percent, the weather service said. The high will be near 52.
