Some vaccine events are planned today in Wyandotte County.

Don’t Throw Away Your Shot event

At Harmon High School, 2400 Steele Road, Kansas City, Kansas, the Don’t Throw Away Your Shot community event will provide free COVID vaccines for those 12 and up. There will be a $50 gift card for residents who get the first dose of the COVID vaccine.

The event will be from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, at Harmon. Besides free COVID vaccines, there will be free COVID testing offered, free flu shots; free dental exam and fluoride from Swope Health; free sports physicals; free food; and giveaways.

In addition, the Kansas City, Kansas, Band Showcase will be held at Harmon. Those attending Saturday’s event also may apply for job opportunities. Masks are required and transportation is available. For more details, see https://kckps.org/new-covid-19-vaccine-event-on-october-2-2021/.

Silver City Day Celebration

El Centro is holding a COVID vaccine clinic from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, at 2717 Strong Ave., Kansas City, Kansas, during the Silver City Day celebration at Emerson Park. The Silver City Day celebration starts at 10 a.m. and continues through 3 p.m. at Emerson Park.

Free COVID vaccines are provided for those 18 and older, and also for those 12-17 who have parental consent. Appointments are not needed. This booth is in conjunction with Vibrant Health.

Free cancer screenings and COVID vaccinations in Bonner Springs

Free cancer screenings and COVID vaccinations are scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, at the Bonner Springs Library, 201 N. Nettleton Ave, Bonner Springs, Kansas.

Free COVID vaccines will be available for people ages 12 and older. Those who live in Wyandotte County and are getting their first COVID vaccine will receive a $50 gift card. Walk-ins are welcome

Mammograms and breast exams are available for women ages 40 and older, and colorectal testing kits are available for adults ages 45 and older. Those who have health insurance should bring their insurance cards. Those attending should wear a mask. The program is in conjunction with the UG Health Department.
