The fatal shooting just after 5 p.m. May 2 in the 2400 block of Wood Avenue involved a narcotics investigation by the Violent Crimes Task Force, according to a Kansas City, Kansas, police spokesman.
Officers were trying to make an arrest when they were confronted by an armed suspect, the spokesman stated. During the confrontation the suspect, a man in his mid-20s, was shot and killed, the spokesman stated.
The officer involved is a 21-year veteran of the Police Department, and has been placed on administrative leave, according to the spokesman.
An investigation is being conducted by the major case unit of the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department and will be reviewed by the Officer Involved Critical Incident Team, the spokesman stated.
