UG to meet about capital projects, other items on Thursday

The Unified Government Commission will meet at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Thursday, May 5, at City Hall, 701 N. 7th St. Kansas City, Kan.

The 5 p.m. meeting, in the fifth floor meeting room, will be a special session on the 2016-2021 capital maintenance improvement budget, according to the agenda.

The 7 p.m. meeting, in the Commission Chamber on the lobby level, includes:

• A purchase and redevelopment agreement with Carojoto LLC to acquire, renovate and operate the municipally owned parking garage at 625 State Ave. The $1 million project has up to 300 parking stalls for commercial tenants, residents and visitors in the central business district.

• A memorandum of agreement between the UG and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 53.

• An update on the K-32 corridor plan, Rosedale master plan and sign code rewrite.

• Travel request from Commissioner Gayle Townsend to attend the International Council of Shopping Centers Recon Convention in Las Vegas, Nev.

• A resolution authorizing a survey of land for road projects, including Leavenworth Road from 38th and 63rd, and the intersection of Central Avenue, 18th Street and Park Drive.

• A resolution allowing the UG to dispose of 22 old automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) to any local not-for-profit organization in need of AEDs. The AEDs are outdated for Fire Department purposes but are still usable.

• An ordinance and resolution to amend the UG code to define terms of office, set dates for fall elections and specify the elections are nonpartisan.

• A recommendation that $5,000 returned from the 2015 UG Hollywood Casino grant funds that were returned by a recipient be added to the casino grant fund allocation of Commissioner Gayle Townsend for 2016.

• An honorary street name designation at the northwest corner of Fiberglass and Funston as Richard Kester Boulevard, and the southwest corner of Fiberglass and Sunshine as Charlie Morton Avenue. The request is from KMDI Inc. in the Fairfax area.

• A second plat of the Legends Auto Plaza, 98th and Parallel Parkway.
