UG committees to meet Monday

Unified Government committees are scheduled to meet at 5 p.m. Monday, April 6, in the fifth-floor conference room at City Hall, 701 N. 7th St., Kansas City, Kansas.

The Neighborhood and Community Development Committee will begin at 5 p.m., followed by the Economic Development and Finance Committee.

On the agenda for the EDF meeting is an agreement with Brancato’s Catering, which will allow development of the Downtown Campus project to proceed.

The agreement, in which Brancato’s manages the Reardon Center at 5th and Minnesota, would end May 31 and would include a one-time payment of $51,000 to Brancato’s to cover costs associated with the early termination, according to the agenda.

Brancato’s would stay as a vendor available to serve Memorial Hall at 600 N. 7th St., according to the proposed amendment, but it would not be the sole or exclusive vendor there.

In a redevelopment project recently approved, the Reardon Center will be torn down and a smaller meeting center will be built at the site, along with a multi-use development including some housing, athletic facility and a small retail space.

Also on the EDF agenda is an update on the performance of customer service initiatives for the motor vehicle registration program of the UG Treasury Division from 2019.

Several Land Bank items are on the agenda for the NCD meeting.

The Land Bank items include these transfers from the Land Bank for the expansion of the Wolcott Treatment Plant: 5540 N. 94th St., 5544 N. 94th St., 5545 N. 95th St., 5551 N. 95th St., 5550 Walnut St., 5601 Walnut St., and 5621 Walnut St., all Unified Government.

The meeting will be in a virtual format, with many of the committee members expected to participate either by telephone or through the internet. Recently, because of COVID-19, the stay home order and social distancing, the UG has been holding meetings that allow the public to sit in the City Hall lobby and watch a screen while practicing social distancing, or watch on screens from home, and encouraging the public to email comments. The meetings are expected to be on the UGTV cable channel as well as on YouTube.
