UG Committee meetings planned tonight

The Unified Government plans a Public Works and Safety Committee meeting at 5 p.m. Jan. 28, at the fifth floor meeting room, City Hall, 701 N. 7th St., Kansas City, Kansas.

The Administration and Human Services Committee meeting will follow at the same location.

The Public Works and Safety Committee is scheduled to discuss an ordinance on electric-assisted scooters and shared small vehicle programs in Kansas City, Kansas.

Also on the PWS Committee agenda is a proposed ordinance adding progressive design-build to the procurement code to allow the use of progressive design-build alternative delivery method for city construction projects.

Other items on the PWS Committee agenda include:

• A resolution authorizing a survey and description of land for the Board of Public Utilities’ installation of ductile iron pipe and appurtenances at 89th and Parallel Parkway to I-435 and France Family Drive.

• An agreement with Fire District 1 of Leavenworth County to provide automatic fire and EMS services in times of emergencies, natural disasters and man-made catastrophes.

• An extension of the agreement with Bonner Springs for street maintenance and police services to the unincorporated area of Loring for an additional year.

• An agreement with the Kaw Valley Drainage District and the Army Corps of Engineers to enter into a public partnership with the UG to secure federal funds.

• A regular report to the committee on work being done by Waste Management and Public Works.

• A proposal for the county administrator to negotiate a contract amendment with Waste Management to address how the number of residential units are calculated, penalties for missed pickups and other matters pertaining to the contract.

• An update on the progress of the new fire station at Hutton and Leavenworth roads.

• An update on the Safe Routes to School outreach program.

On the agenda for the Administration and Human Services Committee is an update on the UG’s open data efforts.
