UG Commission to meet tonight; budget hearing scheduled

The Unified Government Commission is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, at the Commission Chambers, lobby level, City Hall 701 N. 7th St., Kansas City, Kan.

A public hearing on the UG budget and community development is expected to be held at this meeting. The public may attend and make comments on the budget.

The public may make comments on budget priorities for the UG’s revised 2015 and proposed 2016 budgets, as well as for the Community Development budget and housing needs.

Public comments will be taken on the Annual Action Plan, which includes the 41st Year Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG), 2015 HOME Investment Partnership Grant Program, and the 2015 Emergency Solutions Grant Program (ESG). The Unified Government of Wyandotte County-Kansas City, Kan., Department of Community Development is funded through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

During the regular 7 p.m. meeting, the agenda also includes:
– A change that would create a code enforcement administrative fine process. This would move the process away from municipal court and to an administrative hearing, and would assess fines.
– A resolution directing user fee revenues paid by those entering into agreement with the UG for the use of the UG’s emergency communication system be deposited into the county equipment reserve fund.
– An ordinance to authorize the repeal of a resolution and ordinance about State Avenue 240 industrial revenue bonds. The development was unable to obtain a lender for the project at 122nd and State.
– Two resolutions of intent to issue industrial revenue bonds for SVV I LLC (Schlitterbahn Vacation Village). This is a development in the area of 98th and Parallel Parkway to State Avenue. The bonds are $57 million for the auto plaza area, and $140 million for areas 1, 3, 4 and 5.
– Land Bank applications.

The UG Commission also will hold a special session at 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, in the fifth floor conference room of City Hall. The agenda includes the county administrator’s quarterly report, followed by a Planning and Zoning process and special projects, according to the meeting announcement.
