The Unified Government appointed an interim county appraiser, Katherine Briney, on Dec. 10.
UG Administrator Doug Bach said at the Dec. 10 meeting that Briney’s appointment is for a six-month period.
UG Appraiser Eugene Bryan Jr. has announced his retirement effective on Dec. 16, Bach said. Bryan has been county appraiser here since 2004.
Briney, the deputy county appraiser before her appointment, has served as a county appraiser or deputy county in other Kansas counties previously. She has more than 20 years in public service.
In mid-April, she became the deputy county appraiser in Wyandotte County. Her appointment is subject to the approval of the director of property valuation of the Kansas Department of Revenue.
“My goal is for this transition to be as seamless as possible,” Briney said in a statement to the UG Commission at the Dec. 10 meeting. “I will continue to evaluate processes currently in place, and plan to work closely with one of my most valuable assets, and that’s my staff. We do have a really good staff in place.
“And to successfully execute the duties of the appraiser’s office, and in a manner in compliance with both the Kansas Department of Revenue, property valuation division, and Kansas state laws,” Briney said. “I take this role very seriously and have every intention of performing my duties in a manner that positively reflects the expectations of the citizens of Wyandotte County, as well as the Unified Government.”
Briney’s appointment takes effect Dec. 17.
