Two UG Committee meetings scheduled tonight

Two Unified Government committees will meet tonight at City Hall, in the fifth floor meeting room at 701 N. 7th St., Kansas City, Kansas.

The Public Works and Safety Committee will meet at 5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 25. On the agenda:

• A grant opportunity through the Kansas Department of Corrections for youth services. If approved, Wyandotte County would apply for $375,503 for a mental health specialist, parent management training program, risk reduction quality assurance coordinator, disproportionate minority contact coordinator, three part-time mentors, and youth services center allocation. In a second part of the grant, Wyandotte County youth could receive scholarships for 10 students for vocational and community college educations.

• A fireworks report from the fire marshal.

• A resolution declaring that Bridge No. 66 over Little Turkey Creek would require land acquisition for bridge repair work. If approved, a survey would be conducted and property could be acquired through eminent domain.

The Administration and Human Services Committee will meet following the Public Works and Safety Committee meeting tonight on the fifth floor of City Hall.

On the agenda for the AHS Committee:

• Presentation of the Park Drive Neighborhood Revitalization Strategy area plan. The area’s boundaries are 16th Street on the east, City Park-32nd Street on the west, Central Avenue-Orville Avenue on the north, and I-70 on the south. Residents will have 30 days to comment on the plan, ending Oct. 23. The UG Commission is expected to consider the plan on Oct. 26.

• The appointment of Rachel Jefferson, executive director of the Historic Northeast-Midtown Association, to the REACH Foundation’s Community Advisory Committee for a three-year term.
