The Downtown Shareholders held its quarterly meeting Thursday evening at the Reardon Convention Center in Kansas City, Kan.

There were about 30 people who attended this meeting, which was headed up by local attorney Bill Hutton.

At this meeting were two candidates, Harold Johnson and Melissa Bynum.

Harold Johnson is running against Commissioner Tarence Maddox for the 4th District, Unified Government position.

“I have over 20 years of financial experience as many of you know,” he said. He has formerly worked with Commerce Bank on financing large nonprofit building projects.

“I’m actively involved in my church and various civic events within our community,” Johnson said.

Economic development is essential for the growth of the community, Johnson added.

Another candidate who was at the meeting was Melissa Bynum, running for the 1st District, at large, Unified Government position.

“I love this community, I grew up here,” she said. “We need strong economic development within our community. As many of you know I’m actively involved in the community.”

She added everyone needs to work together so they can all succeed together.

At the end of the meeting both candidates stayed around to answer any questions.
