Turner defeats Ward, 54-12
by Brian Turrel
Turner High School used its ground game to dominate the Bishop Ward Cyclones on Ward’s home field on Friday. Jaelon Harley scored four rushing touchdowns and Jaylin Richardson scored two more in the 54 – 12 victory.
Turner set the tone for the game on the first possession, scoring on a 3-yard Harley run that followed a 50-yard pass play to Tyler Wiggins. Turner kept up the pressure, scoring twice more in the first quarter on runs from Harley and Richardson.
Turner’s defense closed the first half strong, using an interception return by linebacker Jack Wiedner and a fumble recovery by lineman Ryan Johnson to push the score to 47-6 at halftime. A Harley touchdown run in the third quarter capped the Turner scoring at 54.
The Ward team, which has struggled to score this year, put two touchdowns on the board. Adrian De Haro returned the first Turner kickoff of the game for a touchdown. Ward also scored on a long touchdown pass from Drew Collins to Quincy Tabron in the fourth quarter.
Before the game, Ward honored former football coach Tim Dorian, who died in July. Many alumni and former teachers were on hand for the remembrance.
Turner is now 2 – 2 for the season and plays Piper at home next Friday. Bishop Ward drops to 0 – 4 and travels to play Sumner Academy.
