The Trash Boat Regatta was the place to be if you wanted to see something out of the ordinary this past weekend.
The regatta launched at Kaw Point in Kansas City, Kan. The event attracted participants and spectators from throughout the Kansas City area.
One of the participants was Joe Dyke, who lives in the Strawberry Hill area of Kansas City, Kan. Joe, who was originally from Seattle, Wash., was born on a houseboat and always loved the water. His father was an engineer. Joe got involved with this project some six years ago and is one of the founding fathers of this regatta.
“I look forward to this every year,” Joe said.
To build a boat for this race you have to spend less than $100. Everything from used water cooler bottles to Styrofoam was used to create these unusual floating monstrosities.
At the end was an award ceremony for everything from best boat to the most creative.
