Today’s temperatures to be in mid-80s; Wednesday could be in high 90s

Enjoy today’s high near 85, as temperatures will climb in the next few days until the heat index on Wednesday and later could be 100 or higher.

The National Weather Service said a few scattered showers and clouds left over from Tropical Storm Barry are causing the cool temperatures today in the region.

A prolonged duration of excessive heat from Wednesday through the end of the week potentially could be dangerous to those who are most vulnerable, according to the weather service. It will be the hottest it has been so far this year, and persons may need to limit their outdoor exposure time and keep hydrated, according to the weather service.

The Wyandotte County forecast through the end of the week does not contain any rain at this time.

The rivers in Wyandotte County are currently below flood stage, according to hydrology charts. The Missouri River at Parkville, which includes Wyandotte County on the Kansas side of the river, is in action stage. The Kansas River at 23rd Street, where the gauge is near Kansas Avenue and the state line, is below flood stage and below action stage.

Today, it will be mostly sunny with a high near 85 and an east wind of 6 to 9 mph, the weather service said.

Tonight, it will be mostly cloudy with a low of 70 and an east wind of 3 to 8 mph, according to the weather service.

Tuesday, it will be mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 88 and a light and variable wind, the weather service said.

Tuesday night, it will be mostly clear with a low of 74 and a calm wind, according to the weather service.

Wednesday, it will be sunny and hot, with a high near 97, the weather service said. A south wind of 7 to 15 mph will gust as high as 25 mph.
