Today’s forecast has a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms, wind gusts as high as 21, and a heat advisory with a heat index rising to 99, according to the National Weather Service.
A cluster of storms this morning moved south from Nebraska into northeastern Kansas and into Missouri, with a potential to develop damaging wind gusts and hail, the weather service said.
Isolated to scattered thunderstorms remain through the morning before additional development is expected along a weak surface boundary in the afternoon, according to the weather service. The better chances for storms are to the north of the Kansas City area. Damaging winds and hail are possible with the strongest storms.
A heat advisory is in effect from noon July 19 until 8 p.m. July 19, the weather service said. The cloud cover today could affect the heat advisory. Residents are advised to reschedule outdoor activities to the morning and evening, and to drink more fluids, stay in air-conditioning and check on the elderly.
Today, there is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 4 p.m., with a high near 94, the weather service said. The heat index may reach 99. A south southwest wind of 9 to 15 mph may gust as high as 21 mph. Between a tenth and quarter-inch of rain is expected.
Tonight, there is a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with a low of 72, according to the weather service, and a southwest wind of 5 to 13 mph.
Friday, expect a high of 92 with a heat index as high as 95, the weather service said. A north northwest wind will be 5 to 8 mph.
Saturday, it will be sunny with a high near 91 and a north northwest wind of 5 to 10 mph, the weather service said.
Saturday night, it will be mostly clear with a low of 68, according to the weather service.
Sunday, expect sunny skies with a high near 90, the weather service said.
Sunday night, it will be partly cloudy with a low of 69, according to the weather service.
Monday, it will be mostly sunny with a high near 89, the weather service said.
