Tiblow Days kicks off tonight in Bonner Springs

Tate Stevens to perform Saturday night at event

Bonner Springs is expecting a crowd for its 35th annual Tiblow Days Festival, which kicks off tonight.

The three-day festival begins with a carnival from 3 to 11 p.m. and City Band concert, plus ice cream social at 8:30 p.m. tonight in Kelly Murphy Park. Admission to the carnival is $20 for a wristband from 5 to 9 p.m., and the concert and social is free.

Many of the events are taking place on Cedar and Second Street in Bonner Springs. Musical entertainment, food, a barbecue competition, a carnival, a parade and car show are some of the events.

Expected to attract a crowd will be a performance at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, by Tate Stevens, a country music singer originally from Belton, Mo. Stevens was the lead singer of the Dixie Cadillacs before moving to the Outlaw Junkies and Tate Stevens Band. He appeared on the X Factor show beginning in 2012 and was the final winner, which boosted his career.

Friday’s events include a carnival from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m., with a $20 wristband from 5 to 9 p.m.; vendor booths; the mayor’s banquet at 6 p.m., advance tickets; a Beer Garden from 6 to 11:30 p.m. in Centennial Park to support Bonner Springs Project Grad; and music from 7 to 11 p.m. at Centennial Park.

Performing will be Damien Gunn and the Bang Bangs at 8 p.m. and a Garth Brooks tribute by Shawn Gerhard at 9:30 p.m. Friday.

Saturday’s events include a Smokin’ on Oak Barbecue competition with judging at noon; a biscuit and gravy breakfast from 6 to 9 a.m., at the First Christian Church, 148 N. Nettleton; the Tiblow Trot from 7 to 9 a.m.; a car show staging and check in from 8 to 10 a.m.; a carnival from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.; vendor booths; a parade at 9:30 a.m. from Lions Park to Nettleton to Oak; a car show on Cedar Street from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.; parade awards at 11 a.m. at Kelly Murphy Park; group performances from 11:15 a.m.to 3:15 p.m.; a community pinewood derby at 4 p.m. at Kelly Murphy Park; barbecue awards at 3 p.m. at the community center; a Beer Garden from 5 to 11:30 p.m. at Centennial Park; and a musical lineup from 6:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.

The group performances on Saturday include CMS and BSHS cheerleaders and dancers at 11:15 a.m.; Sarah’s School of Dance at 11:45 a.m.; Kristi’s Academy of Dance at 12:30 p.m.; Grand Master Kim’s Taekwondo at 1:30 p.m., and Legacy Dance Studio at 3 p.m.

The musical lineup on Saturday night includes Unholstered Outlaws at 6:30 p.m.; Blake Tuttle at 8 p.m. and Tate Stevens at 9:30 p.m.

There will be a Cars for Heroes car giveaway during the Tate Stevens musical performance.

The Tiblow Days event’s host is the Bonner Springs-Edwardsville Chamber of Commerce.
