Thunderstorms in today’s forecast

A cluster of scattered thunderstorms are expected to move through much of northeast Kansas and northwest-central Missouri this morning, before clearing out by midday, according to the National Weather Service.

Another round of thunderstorms are expected to develop late this afternoon into the evening and overnight hours, the weather service said.

Isolated strong storms are possible, including 60 mph winds and quarter-size hail, according to the weather service.

Moderate to heavy rain is possible, with locally 1-3 inches of rainfall possible through Tuesday night, the weather service said.

Today, there is a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1 p.m., then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3 p.m., the weather service said. It will be mostly cloudy with a high near 87. A calm wind will become east around 5 mph in the afternoon. Between a half and three-quarters of an inch of rain is possible.

Tonight, there is a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 7 p.m., according to the weather service. It will be mostly cloudy, with a low around 71 and a calm wind become south southeast around 5 mph. Between a quarter and half an inch is possible.

Tuesday, there is a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with a high near 85, the weather service said. A calm wind will become southwest around 5 mph. Between a tenth and quarter-inch of rain is possible.

Tuesday night, there is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 a.m., according to the weather service. It will be partly cloudy, with a low of 71 and a calm wind. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain is expected.

Wednesday, there is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 1 p.m., the weather service said. It will be mostly sunny, with a high near 90 and a calm wind becoming south around 5 mph in the afternoon. Between a tenth and quarter-inch of rain is possible.

Wednesday night, it will be partly cloudy, with a low of 73, according to the weather service.
