Three meetings scheduled tonight for UG

The Unified Government Commission plans to meet at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, at City Hall, 701 N. 7th, Kansas City, Kan.

On the agenda for the 5 p.m. meeting in the fifth floor conference room will be a discussion about vending machines. After that will be a closed session in the ninth floor conference room on security and personnel, according to the meeting announcement.

The 7 p.m. UG Commission meeting, with many planning and zoning items, is scheduled for the Commission Chambers, lobby level, City Hall.

After the 7 p.m. meeting, the UG Public Building Commission will meet in the ninth floor conference room at City Hall. It concerns the repairs to Cricket Wireless amphitheater, with $750,000 in bonds proposed through the Public Building Commission.

Among the items on the 7 p.m. meeting agenda, which also includes several planning and zoning items:
– Cricket Wireless Amphitheater, Bonner Springs, repairs, $865,000 project. It is owned by Wyandotte County. Proposed is $750,000 in bonds through Public Building Commission financing. The UG and Bonner Springs are to provide $115,000 in cash to begin the project. According to UG documents, the facility is in need of major capital improvements to address safety issues and improve the appearance of the grounds and buildings.
– A resolution to authorize funding of $760,000 for the Kaw Point Park connector trail. The commission previously authorized $510,000 in general obligation debt for the project, and this is a request for more money because of increased construction costs.
– Change of zone from agriculture to commercial for storage of landscaping materials in conjunction with existing business at 5201 and 5204 N. 97th St., Blake Watson, Nature’s Touch Landscaping.
– Special use permit application for a kennel for six dogs at 2610 S. 27th St., Susan Prucka.
– Change of zone from single-family district to planned light industrial and industrial park district for industrial park at 6925 Riverview Ave., Eric Watts, NorthPoint Development.
– Special use permit for a dirt fill at 4301 Powell Ave., Jose D. Llaves.
– Special use permit for an indoor sports facility, focusing on soccer, at 3140 S. 28th St., Peter Duffey, Peak Soccer Performance.
– Special use permit for racing pigeons at 3406 Webster Ave., Leng Yang.
– Special use permit for a horse at 741 S. 76th St., Patricia Soto.
– Special use permit for a recycling operation at 822 N. 49th St., Wil Anderson, BHC Rhodes.
– Vacation of utility easements at 3412 and 3414 N. 109th Terrace, Shawn Woods, Woods Development Group.
– Vacation of a street at 4926 McGurk St., Rogaciano Meza.
– Vacation of utility easements at 1405 N 98th St., Curtis Peterson, Polsinelli, for Dairy Farmers of America.
– Master plan amendment from low density residential to business park at 6925 Riverview Ave., Eric Watts, NorthPoint Development.
– Ordinance amendment, planning and development in city ordinances, adding a substitution clause to Division 11, signs, of the zoning code.
– An ordinance vacating right of way at 9020 State Ave.
– An ordinance allowing the substitution of noncommercial speech on signs containing commercial speech, adding a new section to the ordinances codes.
– Several Land Bank items.
