Quiet weather with below normal temperatures are in the forecast this week, according to the National Weather Service.

Highs in the lower to mid-80s and lows in the low to mid-60s are forecast through Friday, the weather service said. A cold front is moving through the area today.

Today, it will be sunny with a high near 87 and a north northwest wind of 7 to 13 mph, gusting as high as 18 mph, the weather service said.

Tonight, it will be mostly clear, with a low of 63 and a north wind of 5 to 9 mph becoming light after midnight, according to the weather service.

Tuesday, it will be sunny with a high near 84 and a north wind of 5 to 8 mph, the weather service said.

Tuesday night, it will be mostly clear, with a low of 60 and a light and variable wind, according to the weather service.

Wednesday, it will be sunny, with a high near 84 and a light southeast wind, the weather service said.

Wednesday night, it will be mostly clear, with a low of 62, according to the weather service.

Thursday, it will be sunny, with a high near 86, the weather service said.

Chance of strong storms tonight coming from north

There is a 50 percent chance of storms tonight, according to the National Weather Service.

A line of storms will move south from Nebraska into Kansas later today, pushing into northeast Kansas late this evening, the weather service said. The primary threats will be strong winds and hail.

The storms will weaken as the line pushes southeast overnight, according to the weather service. Areas including Topeka and St. Joseph, Missouri, are in the path of the storm, while the Kansas City area may not be affected as much.

Cooler temperatures are expected next week, with highs in the upper 70s and low 80s next Monday through Wednesday, the weather service said.

Temperatures will be in the mid to upper 80s on Friday, with the heat index in the mid to upper 90s.

Today, it will be sunny with a high near 90 and a heat index as high as 95, the weather service said. An east southeast wind will be 6 to 8 mph.

Tonight, there is a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4 a.m., with a low of 70, according to the weather service. A southeast wind of 6 mph will become light and variable. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain is expected.

Saturday, there is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 7 a.m., with a high near 83, the weather service said. A north wind will be 8 to 10 mph. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain is forecast.

Saturday night, it will be mostly clear, with a low of 60 and a north northeast wind of 6 mph becoming calm in the evening, according to the weather service.

Sunday, it will be sunny with a high near 85 and a calm wind, the weather service said.

Temperatures to reach high 80s today

Temperatures may reach as high as 88 degrees today, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

There is a slight chance of rain and storms today, but not high enough to be listed on the Wyandotte County forecast. The storms and rain will be mostly to the southwest of the Kansas City area. At 9:30 a.m., storm clouds were seen south of Topeka and in the Ottawa area, according to weather service radar.

Temperatures will be in the high 80s through Saturday, then will drop to the mid-80s on Sunday through Monday before dropping to the high 70s on Tuesday, according to the forecast.
