Thunderstorm moving over Wyandotte County

At 11:21 a.m. Sunday, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over Bonner Springs and nearby areas, moving east at 35 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

Penny-size hail and winds in excess of 40 mph will be possible with this storm, the weather service said.

Heavy rainfall also is possible. Do not drive through flooded roadways, the weather service advised.

Kansas City, Kansas, and neighboring communities are in the path of the storm.

Temperatures will warm up today through Saturday, with a chance of rain on Sunday, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

Today’s high will be near 85, the weather service said. Saturday, the high may be near 89.

Cooler weather is in store for next week, with some areas approaching the middle to upper 30s for lows, according to the weather service. Some areas of the region may have patchy frost next week.

Today, it will be sunny, with a high near 86,and a south wind of 9 to 14 mph, gusting as high as 22 mph, the weather service said.

Tonight, it will be clear, with a low of 66 and a south wind of 10 to 13 mph, according to the weather service.

Saturday, it will be sunny, with a high near 89 and a south southwest wind of 13 to 16 mph, gusting as high as 28 mph, the weather service said.

Saturday night, it will be mostly clear, with a low of 66 and a south southwest wind of 5 to 13 mph, gusting as high as 23 mph, according to the weather service.

Sunday, there is a 50 percent chance of showers between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4 a.m., the weather service said. It will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 76. A light and variable wind will become northeast 5 to 7 mph in the morning. Between a tenth and quarter-inch of rain is possible.

Sunday night, there is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with a low of 53, according to the weather service. Between a quarter and half-inch of rain is possible.

The weather warms up a little today through Saturday, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

Today’s high will be near 81, while Friday’s temperature is predicted to be 85 and Saturday’s, 90. Temperatures will drop to a high of 77 on Sunday, according to the weather service.

While there is a slight chance of precipitation with the cold front moving into the area on Sunday, it isn’t a large enough chance to show up on the Wyandotte County forecast. The front will be moving from west to east on Saturday and Sunday, the weather service said.

Late Monday will see a stronger cold front moving into the area, with the high predicted at 69 on Tuesday, according to the weather service. There are high winds associated with this front.
