Windy, dry weather means slightly elevated fire risk today

Windy weather with low humidity will result in a slightly elevated fire weather risk this afternoon, and also a risk on Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

Today, winds may gust as high as 20 mph, the weather service said.

With wind gusts predicted to be 30 to 40 mph late Wednesday morning through the afternoon, and minimum relative humidity values falling to around 30 percent Wednesday afternoon, the fire risk will rise on Wednesday, according to the weather service.

Temperatures will be in the mid-70s today and the low 80s on Wednesday, then will fall Wednesday night, the weather service said. Look for temperatures to drop more than 20 degrees on Thursday, when the high will be about 60. There is no freeze in the forecast, and temperatures could drop to 37 degrees on Thursday night.

On Friday morning, some areas in the northern part of the region could see some frost, according to the weather service.

Today, it will be sunny with a high near 76 and a southwest wind of 7 to 11 mph becoming north northwest in the afternoon, the weather service said. Winds may gust as high as 20 mph.

Tonight, it will be clear, with a low of 53 and a light and variable wind becoming south 5 to 7 mph after midnight, according to the weather service.

Wednesday, it will be sunny, with a high near 83 and a south wind of 11 to 20 mph, gusting as high as 33 mph, the weather service said.

Wednesday night, the low will be around 49 with a north northwest wind of 8 mph, according to the weather service.

Thursday, it will be mostly cloudy through mid-morning, then gradually clear, with a high near 60, the weather service said. A north northwest wind will be 8 to 13 mph, gusting as high as 21 mph.

Thursday night, it will be mostly clear, with a low of 37, according to the weather service.

Friday, it will be sunny with a high near 61, the weather service said.

Friday night, it will be mostly clear, with a low of 45, according to the weather service.

Saturday, it will be sunny, with a high near 71, the weather service said. It will be breezy.

Low humidity values on Wednesday, with gusty winds, may lead to elevated fire weather risk, the weather service said.

Another cold front moving in on Thursday will result in a large drop in temperatures, although there is no freeze in the forecast for Wyandotte County, according to the weather service.

A big change in temperatures will be seen on Thursday, with predicted high temperatures dropping from 82 on Wednesday to 59 on Thursday, the weather service said.

Some areas could see patchy frost on Friday morning, according to the weather service.

Today, Columbus Day, it will be sunny with a high near 71 and a northwest wind of 10 to 15 mph, gusting as high as 24 mph, the weather service said.

Tonight, it will be clear with a low of 52 and a light southwest wind becoming south southwest 5 to 9 mph in the evening, according to the weather service.
