Light rain is possible this morning in parts of the region, according to the National Weather Service.

Most of the rain will be along and south of I-70, the weather service said.

Tonight, when Sporting KC faces Minnesota in the Western Conference Semifinals of the MLS Cup Playoffs in Kansas City, Kansas, the temperature should be around 35 degrees at 7:30 p.m., with no precipitation in the forecast then, according to the National Weather Service’s hourly weather forecast.

The temperature was 35 degrees at 9 a.m. in Wyandotte County, with a wind chill of 29. The weather service said it’s possible that there could be a few places on I-35 and I-70 that could be have isolated slick spots on elevated surfaces and overpasses.

Light snow could mix in where temperatures are in the mid-30s, according to the weather service, however, those areas might be south of Wyandotte County.

Rain will move out by late afternoon or early evening, and there will be a dry forecast with temperatures near normal for the rest of the week into the weekend, the weather service said.

As of 9 a.m. Thursday, the Kansas City, Missouri, downtown airport showed none of the 30 percent precipitation that was in the forecast for overnight, according to the National Weather Service weather observation chart.

Today, it will be cloudy early, then gradually clearing, with a high near 43, the weather service said. A north wind of 6 mph will become light and variable in the afternoon.

Tonight, it will be mostly clear, with a low of 27, according to the weather service. A calm wind will become southwest around 5 mph after midnight.

Friday, it will be sunny, with a high near 50 and a southwest wind of 5 to 8 mph becoming west northwest in the afternoon, the weather service said.

Friday night, it will be clear, with a low of 28 and a light west northwest wind, according to the weather service.

Saturday, it will be sunny with a high near 49 and a calm wind becoming north northwest around 6 mph in the afternoon, the weather service said.

Wintry mix possible tonight and Thursday morning

Light precipitation could begin Wednesday night, likely in the form of rain, and then change later into light freezing rain or light snow, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

Around midnight, the temperatures will drop below freezing along the I-70 corridor, causing precipitation to change to freezing rain or snow, the weather service said.

Light glazing of ice and minor slushy snow accumulation are possible, according to the weather service. The precipitation will end by Thursday afternoon.

Look for rain to begin around 5 p.m. Wednesday, then snow is possible starting around 1 a.m. Thursday, according to the forecast.

There is a possibility of an hour or two of light freezing rain on Thursday morning when surface temperatures are below freezing, the weather service said.

Residents are cautioned that the wintry mix appears to be along the I-70 corridor and during the morning rush hour, and some slick spots could develop on roadways and paved surfaces.

Temperatures will be in the mid- to high-40s today, while there is rain, snow and a wintry mix in the forecast for Wednesday night and Thursday morning, the weather service said.

From a tenth to a quarter-inch of accumulation is possible, according to the weather service. The amount of snow will depend on the surface temperature at the time.

The best chance for snow will be early Thursday morning. Snow is more likely north of I-70, while a wintry mix and rain is more likely south of I-70, the weather service said.
