Today will be the best day for outdoor activities that will be seen this week, with a high near 57 and sunny skies, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

A cold front will move in early Thursday, with strong winds and falling temperatures, the weather service said. Rain and snow are possible before 11 a.m. Thursday, followed by snow from 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., the forecast said.

The coldest temperatures of the winter are expected this weekend, with highs in the single digits and teens on Sunday. Lows will be in the single digits to below zero on Sunday and Monday morning, according to the weather service. The wind chill could drop to 5 to 15 degrees below zero Sunday morning, and slightly warmer Monday morning.

Another chance of light snow is possible Saturday and Sunday, with minor accumulations possible, the weather service said.

Today, it will be sunny with a high near 57 and a south wind of 7 to 13 mph, the weather service said.

Tonight, there will be a chance of drizzle after 4 a.m., with a low of 41 and a south wind of 7 to 13 mph, according to the weather service.

Thursday, rain and snow is likely before 11 a.m., then a chance of snow between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., the weather service said. Patchy fog is possible between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. The temperatures will fall to around 30 by 5 p.m. It will be breezy with a south southeast wind of 6 to 11 mph becoming north northwest 18 to 23 mph in the morning, and winds may gust up to 37 mph. The chance of precipitation is 60 percent with little or no snow accumulation expected.

Thursday night, it will be mostly cloudy during the early evening, then become clear, with a low of 23, according to the weather service. A west northwest wind of 13 to 18 mph will decrease to 6 to 11 mph after midnight, with winds gusting as high as 23 mph.

Friday, there will be increasing clouds, with a high near 43 and a west wind of 6 to 8 mph, the weather service said.

Friday night, it will be mostly cloudy, with a low of 20, according to the weather service.

Foggy start to Groundhog Day

After patchy fog before 10 a.m. today, temperatures on Groundhog Day should rise to a high near 43, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

Any groundhog venturing out will not likely see its shadow today in Wyandotte County. A cloud cover will keep temperatures cool across the region, and where clouds clear, the temperatures have a chance to rise into the 40s, the weather service said.

On Wednesday, temperatures could rise to 56 here, according to the weather service. Wednesday will have the highest temperatures of the coming week.

A strong cold front is expected to arrive Thursday morning, with strong northwest winds leading to falling temperatures throughout the day, the weather service said. The high will be near 44.

There is a slight chance of light snow on Thursday, accompanied by high winds, according to the weather service. The temperature may drop to 23 degrees Thursday night.

Look for arctic weather on the weekend. On Saturday, the high will be only 26, the weather service said, with Sunday’s temperature predicted to be near 17.
