UG committees to meet tonight

Two Unified Government committees are scheduled to meet tonight, starting at 5 p.m.

The Monday evening, Nov. 2, meetings will be on Zoom, according to the agenda. They also are expected to be on UGTV on cable television and also on YouTube.

On the agenda for the Economic Development and Finance Committee meeting, which follows the Neighborhood and Community Development Committee meeting, will be:

• The third quarter 2020 cash investment report.

• An ordinance to terminate the Westfield Shopping Center Community Improvement District and repeal an ordinance and resolution. According to the proposed ordinance, the development agreement has not yet been executed by the developer and the developer has not yet acquired property within the CID as previously contemplated. Westfield center is at 81st and State.

• A presentation on the Rock Island Bridge feasibility study.

• An amended development agreement for the Homefield project, which is at the former Schlitterbahn water park property.

On the agenda for the Neighborhood and Community Development Committee meeting at 5 p.m. will be Land Bank items, including these applications:

UG committees tonight to discuss mandatory flu reporting, flavored tobacco ban, other topics

Several topics are on the agendas for the Unified Government Public Works and Safety Committee and the Administration and Human Services Committee meetings tonight.

The UG’s PWS meeting will start at 5 p.m., followed by the AHS meeting.

They will be remote meetings on Zoom.

The PWS agenda includes:


• A $165,000 local match for a total of $300,000 long-range transportation, land use integration and environmental planning process.
• Update on the MARC PSP grant and the UG’s $15,000 local match for the $135,000 route selection, economic development and green infrastructure integration planning process.
• The $18,900 local match for a multi-use corridor and land use integration planning process from MARC.
• Priority traffic signal project authorization, including survey.
• Complete Street City-Wide Policy.
• Update on policy body camera project.
• Update on grant-funded activities and projects including Community Connect for the police department.
• 2021 Capital Maintenance Improvement Program report.

On the AHS agenda:

• Presentation from Climate Action KC.
• Ordinance requiring the reporting of flu cases to the UG Health Department.
• Ordinance banning the sale of flavored tobacco products, including vaping products and menthol cigarettes in Kansas City, Kansas.
• Ordinance on the sale of tobacco products to those under 21.
• Update on CARES Act funding and CDBG CARES funding.

UG committees to meet tonight

Two Unified Government committees are scheduled to meet, beginning at 5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 28.

The meetings will be on Zoom.

The UG Neighborhood and Community Development Committee will meet at 5 p.m. Sept. 28, followed by the Economic Development and Finance Committee.

On the agenda for the EDF Committee is a proposed ordinance on the police tow lot project, including issuing general obligation bonds or temporary notes to finance the improvements. There also are amendments to the project.

Also on the EDF agenda is a resolution approving a development agreement for the Menards project at 18th Street and I-35. A public hearing on it will be Oct. 29.

Also on the EDF agenda is a resolution setting a public hearing date of Nov. 5 to consider redevelopment project plans for the Village East STAR Bond District as part of the Homefield redevelopment project. This project is on the site of the former Schlitterbahn water park at 94th and State Avenue.

The EDF Committee also will consider a second quarter of fiscal year 2020 budget to actual report, and a report on second quarter budget revisions.

Fred Del Toro applied for a special use permit to put livestock on his property, but it was at the entrance to the Quindaro Cemetery. The land Bank was asked if it had property that it could swap to meet his needs. The current property is at 3447 and 3456 N. 31st Terrace. The Land Bank lot is at 3314 N. 47th St.
