Accidents reported in KCK

A driver was injured at 1:30 p.m. March 28 on I-70 eastbound, east of Minnesota Avenue in Kansas City, Kan.

A 20-year-old Kansas City, Mo., man was eastbound on I-70 when he overcorrected in response to surrounding traffic, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol trooper’s report.

The driver lost control of the Mercury Sable, and it spun to the right and collided with the right barrier wall.

He was injured and taken to a hospital in Kansas City, Kan.

Another accident was reported at 9:48 a.m. March 28 on I-635 southbound south of State Avenue in Kansas City, Kan.

The driver, a 30-year-old Kansas City, Kan., woman, was southbound on I-635 when she overcorrected in response to the surrounding traffic, the trooper’s report stated.

The Scion XA spun and struck the inside center barrier wall. The driver was injured and taken to a Kansas City, Kan., hospital, according to the report.

KDOT to close 134th Street near I-70 next week for bridge work

134th Street near I-70 will be closed to all through traffic from March 31 to April 4 for bridge construction work.

The road closure includes both northbound and southbound lanes from Kansas Avenue to Riverview Avenue, and will be in effect 24/7. The closure starts at 8 a.m. Monday, March 31, and runs through 6 p.m. April 4.

According to the Kansas Department of Transportation, there will be no marked detour. Drivers will need to use alternate routes during the roadway closure.

The Kansas Department of Transportation urged all motorists to be alert, obey the warning signs, and slow down when approaching and driving through the project work zone.

Two injured in three-vehicle wreck at I-435 near State Avenue

A three-vehicle accident injured two at about 6 p.m. Saturday, March 22, on I-435 just north of I-70 in Kansas City, Kan.

The Kansas Highway Patrol trooper’s report stated that two persons were injured and taken to the University of Kansas Hospital, Kansas City, Kan. Three vehicles were northbound on I-435 in the exit lane to State Avenue westbound, when a Ford Focus stopped for traffic. A Chevy Suburban was unable to stop and struck the rear of the Focus. A Geo Metro then struck the rear of the Suburban, the trooper’s report stated.

A 22-year-old Kansas City, Kan., woman who was driving the Geo Metro was injured and taken to the hospital.

A passenger in the Geo Metro, a 24-year-old Kansas City, Kan., man, also was injured and taken to the hospital, according to the trooper’s report.

The driver of the Suburban, a 25-year-old man from Overland Park, Kan., was not injured. A passenger in the Suburban, a 24-year-old woman from Overland Park, also was not injured.

A 25-year-old Wichita, Kan., man driving the Focus also was not injured. Also not injured in the Focus were a 27-year-old man from Manhattan, Kan.; a 26-year-old woman from Manhattan, Kan.; and a 24-year-old woman from Derby, Kan.
